A marine animal “blooming” to capture prey. The animal possesses stinging cells to paralyze the prey and, like jellyfish and nettles, to protect itself. The image is revealed by electron microscopy which allows magnification up to several thousand times. As the microscope photographs in black and white, the image is coloured to allow the fantastic details to emerge.
